The Hollywood Reporter: Joy Reid Launching New Video Podcast in Post-Cable TV Push (Exclusive)
The podcast, which will stream on YouTube (which has become a powerful platform for the format) and the other major podcast platforms, will initially feature analysis, commentary and interviews on Mondays and Wednesdays, with “Freestyle Fridays” incorporating an audience Q&A format. Reid also has a Substack and plans to incorporate that audience into the show.
Newark Mayor and 2025 gubernatorial candidate Ras Baraka, comedian and writer Amber Ruffin, and Ebrahim Rasool, the former South African ambassador to the U.S., are among the initial wave of guests. The show will originate from Washington D.C. and be produced by Image Lab Media Group.
Reid exited MSNBC earlier this year after the cable channel announced an overhaul of its lineup. Reid’s 7 p.m. timeslot was filled with a new panel show hosted by Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend and Michael Steele. MSNBC star Rachel Maddow, among others, called the cancelation a “bad mistake” on the network’s part.

“Throughout my career, I’ve been proud to serve as a trustworthy voice in journalism, particularly as a Black woman in spaces where the perspectives of women, and particularly women of color, are too often underrepresented,” Reid said in a press release. “This new podcast marks an exciting new chapter—an opportunity to reach broader audiences, build vibrant communities, and lead thoughtful conversations on the issues that matter.”
For years, Reid has delivered sharp, unflinching political analysis to millions of viewers. She’s given us the facts with clarity and brought a level of insight that only a Black woman who understands both the stakes and the soul of this country could offer.
Variety: Joy Reid, Ousted from MSNBC, Ready to Court Network’s Fans With New Podcast
Joy Reid was hosting a Monday-through-Friday program in the early evening for the soon-to-be-spun-off -from-NBCUniversal progressive news outlet as recently as February when she was ousted in a revamp of the network ordered by its new chief, Rebecca Kutler. In the waning minutes of her final broadcast of her program, “The Reid Out,” Reid vowed that viewers would not be hearing her last monologue. “We are not going to stop,” she said.
Now she is ready to go. Starting June 9, Redi will stream “The Joy Reid Show” on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons across YouTube and major podcast distributors. The debut episode will feature comedian Amber Ruffin and former South African ambassador to the U.S. Ebrahim Rasool. The program will be based in Washington, D.C.
Reid suggests the new show will let her give viewers an unfiltered view of the world and topics she deems important. “This podcast gives me the space to be all of me — smart, skeptical, curious, joyful, and sometimes just plain fired up,” says Reid via email. “It’s a platform where I can unpack the headlines, sit with brilliant thinkers, challenge power, and also just vibe with the culture. ‘The Joy Reid Show’ is where real conversations happen — without the limits of traditional TV. I’m excited to go deeper, laugh louder, and speak more freely than ever before.”
The Wrap: Joy Reid to Launch YouTube Podcast as First Move Post-MSNBC
Reid’s new show, dubbed “The Joy Reid Show,” will debut on YouTube on June 9. It will stream on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week, with Reid reserving the first two days for political news and commentary, while “Freestyle Friday” will allow her fans to ask her questions.
The show will be produced by Image Lab Media Group, the production company Reid launched with her husband, Jason Reid, who has been the company’s chief executive since it launched in 2005.
Ebony: Joy-Ann Reid Lands New Series 'The Joy Reid Show' to Bring a Voice Back to the Silenced
Offering a mix of news analysis, commentary and special guests, Reid will open her series with comedian Amber Ruffin, who was axed from performing at the White House correspondents’ dinner after angering the current presidential administration, according to AP News. Ebrahim Rasool, the former South African ambassador to the U.S., will also appear. A special preview episode will feature Newark Mayor and 2025 gubernatorial candidate Ras Baraka, airing just ahead of New Jersey’s pivotal June 10 primary.
Reid was the first Black woman to helm a news series, The ReidOut, at MSNBC, which was launched at the height of the 2020 political election period. Her show was abruptly cancelled in February 2025, leaving many to speculate where The Man Who Sold America author—who didn't back down to bullying or threats—would land.
