So glad you covered this. I just heard it and was pissed off but skeptical. If they touch the Blacksonian I’d be there protesting.

Thank you, Joy, for keeping this matter in the spotlight. The threats against the National Museum of African American History and Culture Museum are not to be taken lightly. After hearing that the exhibit was purportedly removed, I visited the NMAAHC on Saturday, April 26th, along with visiting the exhibit in the National Museum of American History. They were both intact. People at both exhibits were engaged with them. I took pictures and I wrote about it in my Substack: https://open.substack.com/pub/mbmatthews/p/on-lunch-counters-history-and-truth?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=hcg5.

The person who should also be concerning is Lindsey Halligan, Esq., as I also write about. She's named in the Executive Order.

We learn from the past to share it with future generations.

I wrote something too, and put your article at the end of my post. Hope that's okay. I don't charge for comments cuz my stack isn't big & trolls stopped coming there after I whooped some cyber-ass. 🤣 Substack then gave me a tool to pre-approve new commenters. 💪🏿

Thank you Joy for your updated reporting on these items and the history of the Smithsonian. I saw the earlier reports of Trump's actions against the museum and sent emails to my Congress people protesting. . Had not heard back. I am very relieved to hear so far they are safe.

I read a book recommended by President Obama: All That She Carried, The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, A Black Family’s Keepsake. Ashley’s sack is now in the Blacksonian. I would like to see it someday when we have a Democracy again. Thank you so much, Joy, for this deep, thoughtful, well researched piece. I also read The 1619 Project.

The attacks upon our country by the Nazi style Republicans sicken me. I’ll never forget visiting the Lincoln Museum in Springfield Ill. where children books for sale; where in history was distorted to fit Republican narratives on reasons we fought the Civil War. This was decades ago but the blatant rewriting was impossible to miss. Today, purge is appropriate.

Yes, Joy!❤️ Does anyone recognize this important point about the actual period of slavery in our country’s history? I so wish that I could remember where I recently read this:

Many years from now the period we are currently living will be considered to be part of THE AGE OF SLAVERY!!!!! Most of us think of slavery as it is presented to us in pitifully altered elementary school sources as something that happened in our past. NO. In the far future, the period in which we are living NOW will be seen as totally inside the Age of Slavery!

Joy, you and I both know he wants this country to be white and Christian only run exclusively by men. You know I read some of president Felon's comments and just have to wonder what his Jewish daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren think. I realize he doesn't care but I still wonder.

Just want to express my deepest gratitude for the work you are doing here Joy. Thank you for digging into the history of NMAAHC and sharing that with us, and for keeping laser focus on the pressures it currently faces.

Thanks for putting it all together. Will continue to discuss with friends. The history we find in each state and uncover hidden articles and pieces, factual pieces and put them back together for our own culture and children. Always try to dismantle or destroy but writers like you (Joy) will help keep it on paper. We appreciate your work because you are reaching us. Thanks for continuing to write!!

This is why I am a proud paid subscriber! Also big thanks to two of my late bosses in Congress - Reps. Mickey Leland (D-TX) and John Lewis (D-GA) for keeping the bill that helped make NMAAHC a reality. Also big thanks to my late wife who gave a big portion of her/our estate to the NMAAHC.

This is awesome, Mrs. Reid. You're amazing. I smell a BIG FAT RAT and this regime is behind it trying to be slimy in the back door. UGH

If they touch that place, I can be in DC in 10-11 hours by car. I'm sick of their shit. That's OUR house, MF's!!!
