In case you missed it, we premiered an amazing film: Love, Joy & Power: Tools for Liberation; an amazing documentary film by Emmy-winning director Daresha Kyi. The film follows Black Voters Matter Fund co-founders Cliff Albright, April England-Albright, and LaTosha Brown as they ride the “Blackest Bus in America” across the country, organizing Black communities ahead of the 2020 election. In dramatic scenes, we watch this incredible team and their intrepid crew navigate everything from death threats, a fire bombing and COVID-19, to an attempted coup by the sitting president, as they fight for racial justice, and against voter suppression.
The film tells of the year Black voters in Georgia made history — flipping the state from red to blue, electing two Democratic Senators: one African American, Raphael Warnock, and one Jewish: Jon Ossoff — and reshaping the country, and our politics in the process.
After the film Daresha, Cliff, April and LaTosha sat down for a post-show conversation about the film with Joy and fellow independent media journalist Roland Martin. Take a look!
